Inter Milan failed to overtake AC Milan in second place in the Italian league standings after being defeated in a home game against Empoli. The match of giornata (matchday) 19 was held on Monday, with the Bologna vs Cremonese match being played first.

Both teams had to share points as they ended the match in a 1-1 draw. Later, Inter Milan hosted Empoli at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. However, Inter was defeated 0-1 by the team led by Paolo Zanetti.

With this result, Inter Milan failed to overtake AC Milan in second place in the Serie A standings and are still one point behind their rival. AC Milan still has one match in hand.
